The History of BONEAL

1980  THE GROUNDWORK FOR SUCCESS

Boneal Incorporated was founded by William and Bonnie Neal as an assembler of typewriter components for IBM in Kentucky, supporting the popular Selectric Typewriter. William’s friends within IBM gave him the nickname of “Bo”, thus, the company was named “Bo-Neal”.

1995  A LEADER EMERGES

Dr. Keith Gannon became the managing partner of Boneal Incorporated and brought with him his “Manufacturing Solutions” business model.  Dr. Gannon is a native of Eastern Kentucky and envisioned a technically powerful small business, based in his home state, that met the outsourcing needs of large organizations and effectively competed on a global stage.

1996  MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS

The Boneal “Manufacturing Solutions” business model was introduced as a marketing campaign, promising to provide “Insight, Synergy, Solutions.”

1997  USPS RELATIONSHIP BEGINS

The United States Postal Service added Boneal Incorporated to its base of over 30,000 suppliers, with Boneal now contracted to work with the Postal Service through 2023. Since then, Boneal has become the premiere supplier for Spare & Repair parts for the postal service so that every piece of mail touches something to have come through Boneal.

1998   INVESTMENT IN EASTERN KENTUCKY

Boneal invests over $2M in administrative offices, manufacturing space and manufacturing equipment in Means, KY, showing its long-term commitment to the Eastern KY area.

1998  FABTEK

Boneal, Inc. creates FabTek Fabrication, starting production in Means, KY, as a provider of complex fabrications to the power transmission industry.

2000 BONEAL CUSTOM MOLDING

Boneal Custom Molding was founded to provide specialty low-medium tooling and injection molding services to Boneal Incorporated and regional commercial Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).

2000  USPS NATIONAL AWARD

In a ceremony in Washington, DC, Boneal Incorporated was recognized from a pool of over 30,000 companies by the United States Postal Service as one of two small manufacturers awarded “Small Manufacturer of the Year”.

2001  USPS NATIONAL AWARD

For the second year in a row, Boneal Incorporated was recognized from a pool of over 30,000 companies by the United States Postal Service as one of only two small manufacturers as “Small Manufacturer of the Year,” showing its efforts to strive for sustained excellence.

2002  USAF RECOGNITION

Boneal Incorporated was recognized at the Pentagon by the Secretary of the Air Force for exceptional supplier performance in re-engineering and manufacturing radio components to keep the AWACS radar surveillance airplane in the air.

2003  USAF MD-1 TOWBAR CONTRACT

Boneal Incorporated was awarded a multi-year contract by the United States Air Force to reverse engineer, manufacture and manage global shipping and logistics of the MD-1 Universal Towbar.

2005  REGION V SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

Boneal Incorporated is recognized nationally at a ceremony in Washington, DC (presided by President Bush) as the best Small Business in the entire 10-state region of the southeastern United States.

2005 GLC INDUSTRIES

GLC Industries was founded to provide precision machining and turning services to Boneal Incorporated and regional commercial OEM’s.

2006 BONEAL.NET

Development started on the proprietary software package, Boneal.Net, an internal tool used within Boneal facilitating communication with our ERP system and leverage our resources more effectively.  Its standardized approach and comprehensive structure provides the flexibility to adjust to virtually any business model, allowing Boneal to adapt and grow.

2007   THIRD PARTY LOGISTICS

Boneal Incorporated was awarded a three-year, $28 million Third-Party Logistics (3PL) contract to provide aircraft ground support equipment to the United States Air Force.

2007  LOCKHEED PARTNERSHIP

Boneal Incorporated was selected by Lockheed Martin as a Logistics and Kitting partner to provide structural wing components to the Lockheed C-130 aircraft production line.

2011  AEROSPACE EXPANSION 

Boneal Aerospace was formed as a sister company to Boneal Incorporated to meet aerospace industry specific requirements, focusing on defense, aerospace, and aircraft ground support equipment.

2014 ORDER FULFILLMENT SERVICES

BONEAL OFS subsidiary formed to support supply chain management, manufacturing, 3PL, T-3PL and Pick-Pack-Ship fulfillment channels.

2014 THIRD PARTY LOGISTICS

BONEAL was awarded a seven-year, $231 million Third-Party Logistics (3PL) contract by the United States Air Force to provide aircraft ground support equipment to air bases and airmen around the world.

2015 BONAERO EXECUTIVE

LTC. (ret). John Karaus was appointed President of Boneal Aerospace.

2015 BONAERO HEADQUARTERS

Boneal Aerospace was moved to current headquarters in Powell County, Kentucky.

2015 BONAERO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The BonAero Board of Directors was formed. The prestigious BonAero board includes GEN John Coburn, Governor Bob Riley of Alabama, USAF GEN Lance Lord, Dr. Harold Raveche and Troy Thompson.

2016 BONEAL INFORMATION SERVICES

An applications development subsidiary for development of Boneal.Net proprietary software was established in Lexington, KY.

2016 USPS

The Boneal-USPS relationship was formally extended through 2023 with a catalog contract for hundreds of spare-and-repair items that keep mail facilities running.

2016 USPS

Boneal Incorporated was formally recognized for long-term commitment and partnership with the USPS with inclusion of the Boneal-USPS story in the postal display at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

2016 BONAERO EXPANSION

In the Fall of 2016 Boneal Aerospace began expanding operations to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to existing customers. Immediate services at the Huntsville operation will include kitting of aircraft components and 3PL/T-3PL service.

2017 TODAY

Today, BONEAL offers a single platform for integrated solutions, providing end-to-end program management, logistics, specialty manufacturing & supply-chain management. With this brings a new logo and overall company aesthetic to match the growing impact of the BONEAL Enterprise.
